The camp of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, since the crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) started had gained the support of the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom.
Naija News learnt that Ortom is supporting Wike because of his role (Ortom) in convincing the Rivers governor to support Iyorchia Ayu to become the national chairman of the party.
A source that spoke with Tribune disclosed that Governor Ortom had asked Wike to trust Ayu on handling the party.
The source, however, stated that after Ayu emerged as the National Chairman of the party, the crisis started.
It was stated that Governor Wike called Ortom’s attention to the crisis, claiming that he did not want Ayu in office if not for Ortom’s plea.
The source said, “Ortom singlehandedly took Ayu to Wike and Wike asked Ortom, ‘can we trust this man?’ And Ortom said yes. After his emergence when the crisis started, Wike asked Ortom, ‘can you see what this man is doing? Can you see what I told you that time?
“The Wike’s group resolves that Ayu must go. Ayu did not contest the election to become the national chairman of PDP. It was Ortom that went to bring him even though people like (ex-Benue State governor, Gabriel) Suswam warned against it.”
