The former lawmaker representing Kogi West senatorial district, Dino Melaye, has condemned President Muhammadu Buhari over his statement during the October 1st Independence Day broadcast.

The President while speaking had said no government since 1999 has done what he has done in six years.

A statement that has been highly criticised by prominent Nigerians who feel the country is going through challenges that have affected its economy.

Buhari while talking about his achievements on Friday, said he has done well in infrastructure, social care, governance, Nigeria’s image and influence in Africa, and the international community.

He said, “A lot has been achieved in the last six years on many fronts: in infrastructure, social care, governance, Nigeria’s image and influence in Africa and the international community.

“But critics misdiagnose incremental progress as stagnation. Since coming to power, this Administration has tackled our problems head-on despite the meagre resources. No government since 1999 has done what we have done in six years to put Nigeria back on track.”

Melaye in his reaction to the President’s statement on Saturday said he has done abominable, unthinkable.

He wrote on his Twitter account, “Mr President no Govt since 1914 has done what you have done. What use to be abominable, perilous, unthinkable, divisive, satanic, irrational, illogical, unconstitutional and criminal is now a custom and normal.- SDM”
